Program Note
|
In the summer of 2011, I traveled to Berlin to study with renowned composer Samuel Adler. My first assignment was to compose a four-minute work for solo cello. I wrote Soliloquy over the course of two weeks, and it was premiered in the program’s final concert.
The piece opens with a lyrical theme, followed by a contrasting section and the eventual introduction of a second theme. Gradually, the two themes adopt one another’s characteristics until they fuse into one distinct melody. |
Premiere |
Premiered in 2011 at the Neue Synagoge Berlin.
